Artist Studios Program By providing workspace, equipment, and basic materials to resident artists, the Taller Boricua assists the artists marketing efforts, and allows the artist an opportunity to participate in a broad range of opportunities, from workshops to art exhibits. Computer Workshops In collaboration with local schools and the community the Taller Boricua is actively engaged in training students on graphical applications. Through team building, software training and hands on experience students from Heritage High School learn how to create computer-generated graphics using Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator. Students also learn CD-ROM development and desktop publishing skills are developing The Heritage Evolution Newsletter where emphasis is given to creative writing and poetry as alternate forms of expressions. A composition of essays and poetry will later be compiled, into a book using BeyondPress software to publish straight to the web. Digital Film Making and Editing Program This program is rooted in our Digital Video Workshop is underway at Heritage High School where students are learning the process of filmmaking. By engaging their ability to create stories, research topics, students learn how to develop ideas into sequenced events in order to produce a film. Animation and computer generated graphics are now being introduced through the use of Apple applications such as imovie. Digital media is now our primary means to record the Taller's Art Exhibitions. We are also establishing a digital library that will utilize each programs selected expertise and disciplines as a part of our Electronic Learning Community Project. Permanent Gallery The permanent gallery at the Taller Boricua Features the work of established artists and emphasizes the work of young emerging artists. The gallery embraces a wide range of artistic styles and media and is recognized as one of New York City's progressive spaces for artistic expression. The gallery displays approximately six to eight exhibits annually with the assistance of artist's and community volunteers. Arts Education Program Through resident artists the Taller Boricua provides music, dance, poetry and art classes to children in East Harlem public schools. Traveling Exhibitions The Taller Boricua has organized more than five hundred traveling exhibitions. These exhibitions have been well received in various communities throughout New York, the Northeastern United States, Illinois, California and Texas. The Taller Boricua has also participated in exhibitions in France Germany and also The Peoples Republic of China. Artist Housing A restored five story mixed use multiple unit building contains seven live-work, affordable rental units for artists studios and public service programs. Dance Music and Poetry Recitals This program consists of workshops, lectures and performances in the Center's multi-use cultural space and the theater.
