Crossing Bridges / Cruzando Puentes Generation 4: Opening during Hispanic Heritage Month, “Crossing Bridges / Cruzando Puentes” exhibits the work of the artist collective Generation Four: Vicente Fabré, Luis Leonor, Moses Ros and Reynaldo García Pantaleón. The name Generation Four (G4) represents the various ages of the artists, each of whom immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at a different stage in his life. Fabré and Leonor arrived as adults, García Pantaleón as an adolescent and Ros was born here as a first generation New Yorker. Within the exhibition, the G4 artists extend beyond the ideological, aesthetic and political borders between their native country, the Dominican Republic and their adopted one, the United States. Through the filter of their own diasporic lens, the artists collectively explore the nature of cross-cultural relationships and universally shared common bonds. Individually each has a visual language all his own, exploring the human condition from intellectual, spiritual and psychological perspectives through a diverse range of mediums including painting, sculpture and installation. G4: Generation Four Artist Collective: Luis Leonor creates installations and paintings that incorporate both the iconography and ideology of European, Afro-Caribbean and Pre-Columbian religions. His work crosses the boundaries between the flesh and the metaphysical-magical wherein the nature of man and spirit is explored. Born in the Dominican Republic and currently living in New York City, Leonor exhibits in the Dominican Republic and the United States. Moses Ros formulates a powerful visual language with symbolic graphic figures and forms within his paintings and sculptures. His vivid lines and bold shapes carry political and social messages that open windows to a deeper understanding of contemporary culture. Influences on Ros include graffiti and pop artists such as Keith Haring, who collaborated with Ros on an Upper West Side mural. Born in New York City of Dominican parents, Ros exhibits in New York as well as creates site-specific work for public art spaces Reynaldo García Pantaleón translates the hopes and fears that confront society in everyday life through his surreal, allegorical narratives. García Pantaleón has an extensive mastery of mediums throughout his work including: drawing, painting, music, sculpture, photography, video, printmaking and silk-screening.
