PULSEAnton, Robert Daniels, Al Johnson, Lawrence Joyner, March 20 – May 2, 2009 Curated by Fernando Salicrup and Christine Licata The Taller Boricua presents PULSE: a group exhibition of 14 contemporary New York artists of African American and Afro-Caribbean decent whose work pulses with both aesthetic energy and the diverse cultures that flow through them. Corporeal to conceptual, a single pulse can signify many things from a steadfast heart to the reason for it to keep on beating. It is the inspirational jolt that quickens intellect and brings clarity and innovation. As a vibration of keen perception and insightful perspectives, a pulse is the tangible influences, sentiments and life of a people and a culture. The artists in PULSE explore these collective dialogues and critical reflections through various mediums: painting, sculpture, mixed-media, installation and video. Provocative on emotional, sensory and socio-political levels, their work gets the blood pumping and the mind buzzing. Participating artists: |
